    Synchrony’s Gear Up initiative is our consolidated, grassroots effort to help close the gap in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shortages in our local communities. Many in our Synchrony family are already helping to “Gear Up” those on the front lines in health, safety and other critical roles around the world by making and donating protective gear needed during the Coronavirus outbreak. But we know we can do more together. For those that join the Gear Up movement, we want to hear your stories and see your photos.     Gear Up through Sewing

    What We’re Doing

    In collaboration with Synchrony employees, partners and cardholders, we are rallying our networks to sew homemade face masks to help close the gap in protective gear.

    Synchrony, together with our small to medium-sized sewing business partners, is encouraging its 140,000 “Sewing and More” credit cardholders to sew protective masks, gowns and gloves.* We are helping to engage these cardholders by offering a statement credit to help them purchase materials needed to create the protective gear and donate it locally.

    How You Can Help

    We’re calling all sewers to help make homemade face masks as we help protect our first responders, healthcare workers and the most vulnerable. Synchrony business partner and owner of Pollard’s Sew Creative, Jenny Pollard Nobile, has provided you with a few resources to get started.

    Gear Up through Printing

    What We’re Doing

    The Synchrony Foundation and Synchrony are teaming up with Stephens Direct and Protoduction 3D as well as global charity Brother’s Brother Foundation, marshalling assistance from the technology, manufacturing, and philanthropic communities, to produce and distribute more than 5,000 face shields to communities in need. 

    Synchrony employees are also 3D printing face shields and face masks to provide protective gear to people working in healthcare and safety.

    How You Can Help

    If you have a 3D printer, consider using it to print face masks and shields for those on the front lines.

    What We’re Doing

    Together with our team, we’re donating unused PPE. In the first week, we donated thousands of face masks to hospitals and first responder organizations around the world. We continue to encourage our employees to donate unused safety equipment.

    How You Can Help

    Search your home for unused PPE to donate to local hospitals, first responders and elderly care centers. Items in-demand include: N-95 face masks or other NIOSH-approved N-95 filtering respirators, Nitrile non-latex, non-powdered gloves, safety glasses and baby monitors.

    What We’re Doing

    Synchrony is temporarily matching employee donations 2:1, tripling giving power to designated local and national non-profits supplying PPE and medical supplies for healthcare providers and frontline workers as well as to select hunger relief organizations and local food banks.

    How You Can Help

    There are a number of great organizations that are accepting monetary donations as they work to produce, secure and donate PPE to communities across the country. Organizations like Americares, Brother’s Brother, the CDC Foundation and UNICEF are all accepting donations.

    Each community has unique needs for PPE. Please visit the websites of local organizations to determine their needs and preferred method of receipt in your area.
