Synchrony Financial Earns Recognition for Workplace Equality and Diversity Efforts
Consumer financial services company earns placement on the FORTUNE and Great Place to Work® 50 Best Workplaces for Diversity list and achieves Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality designation from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation
A longtime supporter of equality in the workplace, Synchrony Financial is pleased to announce it earned two separate honors today in recognition of its workplace equality and diversity efforts.
Synchrony Financial earned a spot on the 2016 FORTUNE and Great Place to Work 50 Best Workplaces for Diversity list for the first time, coming in at No. 29. Synchrony Financial also earned a perfect score of 100% on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) announced today, marking the second consecutive year the company has earned a perfect score on the CEI.
To determine the companies earning a spot on the FORTUNE 50 Best Workplaces for Diversity list, Great Place to Work analyzed how positively women, minorities and LGBTQ employees reported experiencing their workplace overall, paying special attention to an index of factors where these employees tend to have a less positive experience than their colleagues.
Employees answered survey questions, considering everything from how comfortable they are being themselves; the degree of favoritism or insider politics they observe in the workplace; the fairness of promotions; the feeling of honest connection with coworkers; their access to senior leadership; and who receives information and professional development and who doesn’t. Rankings take into account how favorably women, minorities and LGBTQ employees experience their workplace relative to their male, Caucasian and heterosexual colleagues' experiences. The list also considered the degree of representation women and minorities enjoy within the workforce as a whole, as well as in management and executive roles.
“A diverse workforce is key to our success as a business,” said Synchrony Financial President and CEO Margaret Keane. “We continue to pioneer and innovate at Synchrony Financial, with great ideas coming from a variety of experiences and cultures. Our collective diversity is one of our greatest unifying and defining strengths and we’re proud to be recognized for it by FORTUNE, Great Place to Work and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.”
As an employer, Synchrony Financial is committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace, where the input and contributions of all its employees are sought, respected and valued. Synchrony Financial’s employee Diversity Networks (Women’s, Veterans, LGBTQ Partnership, Hispanic, People with Disabilities, African American and Asian Professional Engagement) work to ensure that all employees are comfortable being their authentic selves in the workplace.
“We congratulate this year’s winners for showing that diverse workplaces are good for ALL employees,” said Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work. “Bottom line? Our research shows that the most inclusive workplaces enjoy significantly higher revenue growth than less-inclusive workplaces—evidence that these organizations are cultivating the full human potential of all their people.”
The 2017 CEI, a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, is administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The CEI rated 1,043 businesses in the report and evaluated LGBTQ-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive healthcare benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. Synchrony Financial’s efforts in satisfying all CEI criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.”
